Our Very Own Love Story

WE FIRST MET – SEEMS LIKE YESTERDAY!

We met in 2010. I was seeking accommodation in Port Harcourt and was temporarily staying with a friend at Woji. He had another friend who he accommodated and one day in guys’ chat, she became a hot topic with someone describing her as beautiful, smart and real tough-looking, somewhat scary (laughs).

She was selling groceries in her Mum’s shop at Nvuigwe Road when school wasn’t in session or whenever she had spare time and she also had beautiful sisters, so I became interested. I don’t really recall the details of the first visit but it looked like she had assessed me within a few minutes of our first encounter and put me in her ‘pool of unserious guys’. I wasn’t ready to give up.

WE FINALLY WENT ON A DATE – ONLY TOOK A YEAR!

Fast forward to a few months later, she accepted to technically date me and then she dumped me after a few months (she said she just confirmed I wasn’t a ‘serious’ type). There were certain undeniable truths about us. We really really talked, about all kinds of things; everything. Talking is quite easy for me but with her, it was interesting gist, heartfelt laughter, punchlines and connection on several levels.

I recall the rejection day in which she said she is no longer interested in dating me repeatedly like five times each time I asked. I felt bad, slighted and with a bruised ego I told myself “I am never going to talk to her again”.

I fulfilled my promise to myself for some months and then we started chatting again on social media but no dating at that time. I was in and out of relationships and she was in a serious relationship.

Fast forward again till late 2018 after the ‘winter is here’ period of relationships, I asked her to date me again and she agreed. You can ask her again if I’m serious o because I don’t want heartbreak (laughs). That’s on a lighter note.

So here we are moving forward to the next level in our relationship cum friendship spanning a six to eight-year period. I thank God for making this day possible and also my beautiful queen for accepting to be with me in a lifelong commitment. #Isaiah 41:20#

God be praised!

WE FELL IN LOVE INSTANTLY – WELL ALMOST!

Anietie and I met in 2010. He came to my mum’s shop with a couple of his friends to buy groceries. He started paying frequent visits alone and we got talking and exchanged phone numbers after a lot of cajoling.

After sometime he came to see me in school, essentially to show off his new car, in his mind he set out to impress me, only to discover I wasn’t that kind of girl (laughs).

I also remember him taking me to his new apartment, with the intent to completely sweep me off my and win his bet with his friends, but was disappointed. (He told me about the bet recently). He became friendly with my sisters and mum all in a bid to persuade me into dating him.

He just couldn’t understand how a girl could say NO and stand by her NO. This frustrated him thus we stayed out of touch with each other. We just occasionally said hello once in a while until we completely went offline for about five years.

We got back in touch in 2016, chatted and caught up with each other’s lives. We were happy to be in touch again. This prompted me to get him a cake on his birthday that year.

We went off line again and barely kept in touch for another year due to a couple of issues and when he didn’t get a birthday message from me in 2017 he reached out to me to ask why. We had a long chat where we both vented our anger and we went off line yet again (laughs).

… AND HE FINALLY PROPOSED!

Finally, on Sept 15, 2018, he reached out to me and said he really needed to talk to me, this time he had purposeful intentions to move to the next level.

On his birthday Sept 15, 2018, he shared his life dreams with me and how happy he was to still have found me single. I was still watching him to understand if this was a movie or reality.

Every day after his birthday, I saw a different and determined Ani, and all the efforts he put to make sure this works.

I’ve seen a man after God’s heart; smart, kind, very patient with me, always makes sure I’m happy, a man that truly loves me despite all odds.  He had a clear road map, and he worked assiduously to get us where we are today.

All along I’ve been praying and waiting for the man that compliments me, Ani is a total answer to that prayer.
